The Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross (SEPA) is the Nation's 4th largest Red Cross Chapter and one of the largest providers of disaster relief services in Southeastern Pennsylvania. SPEA was supported by a variety of fundraising activities. To keep donation records, statistics and allow the donators to find and view their respective checks, a large volume of check images and data must be processed and stored in a database, for a donator to view his or her checking account number, check number, dollar amount and check image, with an AFS program privately at any time. All the check data to be stored must be converted to ASCII contents, which needs a highly accurate OCR engine.
ExperExchange was chosen to develop the application due to its champion OCR technology and check processing experience. The main functions include check scanning, content locating on the check, data recognition, data field identification, converting to the proprietary format and exporting data to SEPA's fundraising database for inquiry and archiving. The check images together with recognized data can be displayed with the AFS viewer program. With this application, SEPA not only enhanced the check processing efficiency but also facilitated donators' inquiries, promoting its fundraising activities.
